Workplace Learning

Many North East Adelaide VET Courses require students to undertake Structured Workplace Learning (SWL). This involves learning opportunities related to VET courses in a real or simulated workplace. These placements provide on-the-job training and mentoring to develop technical and employability skills. SWL also provides opportunities for on-the-job assessment as part of VET courses.

The Department for Education and Child Development (DECD) provides guidelines (Workplace Learning Guidelines 2004) for all South Australian students.

Before participating in workplace learning, the Home and/or Host School will ensure students have participated in a 5 hours orientation program which includes:

  • Work, Health and Safety (WHS) in the workplace;
  • Insurance arrangements and implications;
  • Equal opportunity and harassment in the workplace;
  • Child protection;
  • Specific requirements of the workplace provider.

Before participating in workplace learning, the student must collect from the NEVO VET Course Trainer a Workplace Learning Agreement Form, which needs Workplace Learning Agreement Form to be signed by the student, parent/caregiver, work placement provider and Home School Principal. A copy needs to be made for all parties.
